Hearing (Audiometry) Test

Having problems with hearing? It is time that you get an audiometry test done. Come to our clinic at Advance Hearing Center in Cambodia for accurate audiometry tests.

What Is a Hearing (Audiometry) Test?

An audiometry is essentially a hearing test conducted by professionals to detect the kind of hearing problem so that you can be given the right solution. Our clinic has experts who can help you undergo a full audiological evaluation and diagnose the hearing problem, if any.

Both children and adults can come to our clinic for audiometry. There are different audiometry types, and we take extra precautions while conducting the test to ensure that you do not feel pain in the slightest.

Who Can Come to Our Clinic for an Audiometry?

A child may need to undergo a hearing test if he is:

  • Not responding to sounds normally
  • Not reacting to nearby noises
  • Not uttering any word

This sometimes indicates that the child may have been born with profound deafness, or it could simply be a case of excessive wax buildup.

An adult may need to undergo an audiometry test if he is:

  • Short of hearing sounds all of a sudden
  • Unable to hear phone ringtones or television sounds clearly
  • Finding it hard to keep up with conversations in a social setting

Hearing problems may develop anytime, and adults need to be cautious and notice the first symptom. Book an appointment at Advance Hearing Center and get an audiometry done right away.

What Are the Types of Audiometry Tests Conducted at Our Clinic?

Our professionals conduct the first step of hearing screening to detect if you indeed have any auditory problems. If the results are positive, you may have to go for a full hearing test in Cambodia.

There are varying audiometry types to determine if your hearing issue is mild or severe.

  • Pure Tone Air Conduction Audiometry: Our professionals make you listen to various whistles and beeps, and you are to press a button upon hearing them. We take note of the softest sound that you can hear in a pure-tone audiometry (PTA) test.
You have to sit in a sound-treated room with headphones. The audiologist uses an audiometer to record your reaction. At the end of the pure tone hearing test, the degree of your hearing loss is reflected on the audiogram.
  • Pure Tone Bone Conduction Audiometry: This test is conducted to find the exact impaired part of the ear. While problems in the middle ear can be medically treated, issues in the inner ear are more profound and call for the user to resort to a hearing aid.
Our hearing expert keeps a device on your forehead or behind the ear to send sounds via it that result in skull vibration. The vibration often skips the outer and middle parts of the ear and goes straight to the inner part.
  • Speech Audiometry: Conducted on both children and adults, this test involves the person listening to a few words and then repeating them. In the meantime, our professionals will keep an eye on your speech and understand the existence of hearing problems.
This also includes the use of headphones. Wearing them, you have to hear the words that we say in different decibels. The audiologist will keep a record of the softest speech you are able to repeat.

If you are detected with a hearing problem after the hearing test, you are given a hearing aid. To undergo the right audiometry type and get accurate results, book an appointment at our clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is There Any Range for Audiometry?

Yes. If you can hear normal speech, the ticking of a clock, or a whispering sound, your hearing is just fine. In detailed audiometry, you are diagnosed fine if you are able to hear tones ranging from 250 to 8,000 Hz at 25 dB or lower.

2. What Instrument is Mostly Used in Hearing Tests?

An audiologist uses an audiometer to measure cochlear function during a pure-tone audiometry test. The device consists of a pure tone generator, a bone conduction oscillator, an attenuator, a microphone, and earphones.

3. For How Long Are Hearing Test Results Valid?

The results are valid for up to 6 months if you have to get hearing aids on the basis of that. It is better that you come to our clinic for a pure tone hearing test before getting hearing aids.

4. Is It a Good Idea to Get Hearing Tests Done at Home?

No. While there are kits available in the market, the result will only show that you could have a hearing problem. To know the type of the problem and its severity, you have to visit a professional. A detailed evaluation awaits you at our clinic.
